Background McPherson grew up in rural Oklahoma and started playing guitar at 13, playing in local punk rock bands and writing his own material. Growing up, he became interested in 1950s rock and roll, particularly Buddy Holly. He studied visual arts and later worked as an arts & technology teacher, until he sent a demo to Jimmy Sutton of Hi-Style Records, a label specialising in roots music. Hi-Style later released his debut album in 2010, which was given a major-label released by Rounder Records in 2012 and debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart. Later in 2012, Rolling Stone labelled McPherson an 'Artist To Watch'. He has recently released his second album Let The Good Times Roll in Feb of 2015.

What the press says “What’s perhaps most compelling about Let the Good Times Roll is the deft balance McPherson and his band strike between power and agility. Rock ’n’ roll has a knack for brute force, but these songs are never less than nimble, always full of electricity and a steady barometer of unfailing good taste." - Paste Magazine.

What Rescue Rooms “Dead excited for JD and his particular brand of rock n roll”.

Latest Single 'It's All Over But The Shouting'.
