Singer songwriter Martin Stephenson started out as a busker at the age of 15 in the North-East of England. He developed his song-writing technique by firstly learning a few licks from a Spanish Guitar book. Then repeating the process with Jazz, Blues, Country, SkifFle, Reggae etc. Eventually, this glorious collision of styles would become the trademark which Martin has carried through his career of almost 40 years.

He did this for three years before the band came together. Martin Stephenson & The Daintees became a band when Stephenson was a teen in the 80s. This was when the record label ‘Kitchenware’ (Newcastle-based) put them in the studio. In this time they created ‘Roll On Summertime’ in 1982 and due to its success therefore paved the way for a debut album.

Soon after, the critically acclaimed album ‘Boat to Bolivia’ was released in 1986. Moreover, their second album ‘Gladsome, Humour & Blue’ was released in 1988. It was received with the same critical acclaim and positive feedback – sparking their reputation for putting on incredible live shows. After this, Stephenson did solo work for a couple of years and now the band reunite for a tour once more.
