Join the band on their UK 2023 tour of the newly announced album ‘Relentless’.
Formed in the 70s, Pretenders were blending a fusion of punk and new wave with top 40 pop hits – paving the way for the future of music at the time. Chrissie Hynde’s songwriting drives the band, her talent undeniable. At the time, Hynde was breaking the stereotypes that rock bands had a male frontman.
Hynde, hailing from Ohio, is well-known for briefly working in Malcolm McLarens SEX boutique alongside Vivienne Westwood. Before the Pretenders, she played in the band ‘Jack Rabbit’ before leaving to start new band ‘The Berk Brothers’. It was 1978 she formed Pretenders and they subsequently reached the top 40 UK charts in 1979 with the cover ‘Stop Your Sobbing’. Their debut self-named ‘Pretenders’ (1980) climbed all the way to UK number 1 and American number 14.
After many years of other happenings, the band regrouped in 2016 to record a new album produced by Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) titled ‘Alone’. Their latest release was ‘Hate For Sale’ (2020).
