(1st September) Swim Deep today release a new standalone single “Little Blue”. The new track, produced by frequent collaborator Dreamtrak (Foals) coincides with the announcement of a November UK headline tour, with stops in Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, Nottingham and The Garage in London.

The release of “Little Blue” today arrives swiftly following their ‘Familiarise Yourself With Your Closest Exit’ EP which featured contributions from Phoebe Green, Hatchie, Thai duo Dept, and frontman Austin Williams’ fiancé Nell Power.

The accompanying video for “Little Blue” tracks the band’s recent return to the stage, where they embarked on the National Lottery’s Revive Live tour programme, joining artists such as Charli XCX and Everything Everything – all in support of the Music Venue Trust’s grassroots venues.

Operating as something of a shapeshifting entity across their 3 widely-acclaimed albums to date, new single “Little Blue” moves the 5-piece into intriguing new territory. Noting the influence of Caribou on its creation, the track swells with colourful synths and carefully layered harmonies, with Williams’ lyrics suggestive of an exciting new chapter in the band’s story, and a renewed sense of confidence and resilience.

Speaking more on the lyrical inspiration behind the new track, Austin Williams said:

“There’s a couple of themes running through ‘Little Blue’. The lyrics came out as I was writing the melody and I just kept them in. When I look back at it and what I was feeling at the time, it was most probably about me and my fiancé, with a more general moniker for myself and the band too. “Here now we’re going to make it” — is a reassurance that I’ve always needed. I’d like to think sometimes I don’t need it, but now more than ever I do. I’m 30 now, so that youthful foolish hopefulness is slowly being replaced by a crappy realism, but I still think we’re going to headline Madison Square Garden one day so that self belief hasn’t totally abandoned me just yet. And when we do, I’ll be singing this song.”

Across their 10 year career, Swim Deep have embarked on headline tours globally (UK/USA/Asia/Europe) including momentous London headline dates at Shepherds Bush Empire and The Roundhouse. The band have also toured extensively with acts including The 1975, Wolf Alice, Metronomy and Two Door Cinema Club, alongside multiple appearances at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, SXSW + more.

Widely adored at radio (BBC Radio 1 daytime playlist / Hottest Record In The World) and press (NME, The Guardian, Rolling Stone + more), next year will mark the 10 year anniversary of the band’s debut album ‘Where The Heaven Are We’ which charted at #20 on the UK’s official album charts, preceding their two critically acclaimed albums that followed – 2015’s ‘Mothers’ and ‘Emerald Classics’ in 2019.

Swim Deep’s new single “Little Blue” is out now via their own imprint King City Records.
