The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Biography
The band was formed by high-school classmates Ronnie Winter and Duke Kitchens in 2003. Drawing inspiration from pop, punk, and alternative rock, they released a self-titled demo in 2004. This was when they released their debut album ‘Don’t You Fake It’ in 2006 with Virgin Records. The album went platinum and reached 25 on the American charts, the track ‘Face Down’ was incredibly popular. The song reached Number 3 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart, Number 1 on Christian Rock chart, Number 10 on the US Pop 100, and Number 24 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Released two years later, 2011’s Am I the Enemy marked the band’s final album to feature co-founder Duke Kitchens. The title track became the band’s second chart-topping hit on the Christian Rock chart. Released in 2013, the EP Et Tu, Brute? produced another pair of Number 1 Christian hits with “Remember Me” and “Wide is the Gate.” 2014’s full-length album 4 expanded the group’s collection of chart-topping Christian singles yet again, with both “The Right Direction” and “It Was You” climbing to Number 1. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus topped the chart yet again with 2018’s “On Becoming Willing,” then reached the Top 40 of the Alternative Songs chart in 2023 with a symphonic version of the band’s career-launching single, “Face Down.”
