Tickets are now available to see The White Buffalo at Rescue Rooms!
Join Emmy nominated The White Buffalo (A.K.A, singer and songwriter John Smith) as he tours his highly-anticipated new album ‘Year Of The Dark Horse’.
Born in Oregon and raised in California, Smith creates some pretty emotionally driven and genre-bending music, he says “don’t ask me, cos I don’t know what it is – there’s elements and influences from ELO, Daniel Lanois, Tom Waits, The Boss, circus, pirate music, yacht rock, and I’m driving and pushing some of these numbers in a way I’ve never done before” highlighting his eclectic collection of inspiration.
Working alongside producer Jay Joyce (who has worked with the likes of Cage The Elephant and Fidlar) Smith has created an entire story within the 12 songs, each lyric set having a different meaning linking to the overarching theme of shifting seasons and a shifting relationship. On creating the album with Joyce, smith recalls “we’d spend an hour getting a drum tone, then he’d say, ‘Sounds amazing, but any fool can make a drum kit sound good’. So he’d abandon all of that, and end up using a 50 dollar child’s kit mic’d with a singular microphone and pump it through a tiny Marshall amp. His mind works in a manner I’ve never witnessed in anyone else!”.
Emotionally immersive work is Smith’s forte, but this new album pushes his sound towards fresh heights of innovation. Be sure not to miss his live performance!
